EDIT : SOLD 🔴 I just uncovered this little beauty hiding in the studio! Part of my UNtangled series of wearable art necklaces that originated from a sculpture installation ‘Tangled’. That work was a finalist in the Bowral Sculpture Prize and once that exhibition ended I set myself the task to UNtangle it and create smaller wearable pieces out of it, like this one pictured. Now these pieces are scattered all over the world, seperated by countries but connected by its previous life.

This one has just been added to my website and I’ve also included the Christmas cut off dates for shipping - still plenty of time but best to get in quick!

Recently I was commissioned by the ABC to make an artwork for the TV show with Australian food icon Maggie Beer called Maggie’s Big Mission. I am happy to share that I have now included this artwork titled ‘In My Kitchen’ (as you will generally find all these items in my kitchen!) as a print! These threads and beads look like they are popping right off the paper!

Using the eye as a symbol is common in my work, and one that has been used frequently throughout history and different cultures. The eye can be representative of clairvoyance, honesty, a gateway into the soul. It can be confronting to look someone straight into the eye. The eye can also symbolise vision in all its ways - taping into our intuition, seeing into the future and looking beyond.

The ‘Painting Rag Sculpture’ started out as a piece of cloth used in my studio, where the colours gradually and unintentionally built up over time. Using this spontaneity of the various paint splotches to drive where the intentional stitches and beads would follow, this work is part sculpture, painting and textile art - an accumulation of materials and technique, and it is available now in my shop

Looking back at ‘I Want to Break Free’ - the lyric being derived from the popular 1983 hit by Queen, but the term of ‘breaking free’ is one that resonates with my arts practice as I gravitate towards making work that breaks the tradition and expectations of the medium. Hand beaded on paper 🪡

So close to getting this work out of my hands and onto the wall! I extended the size of it which inadvertently ended up with me having to redo much more of it than I anticipated. It�’s now quite big, exact dimensions will come when I can measure it. And it’s heavy! Watch my last post to see it in action

I’ve revisited this work recently, redoing some parts of it and it’s coming along (again!) Although now I am also tempted to change the overall shape of it, changing it from the more traditional rectangle it is currently to a more organic shape… or should I leave it alone?!!

The original artwork is painted, hand stitched and beaded on cotton featuring different fruits and vegetables, a tea cup, wooden spoon, herbs and bread. I loved working on this and seeing it come together as a repeat across the promos for the show. Let me know which fruit, veg or item is your favourite!

So many of you liked my story the other day of me wearing my new ‘Star Spectra’ sweatshirt, I thought I’d share another! It has been FREEZING in Sydney and let me tell you these jumpers are sooo warm - I have been wearing mine on repeat! Featuring a print of my original artwork that I donated to Barnardos for their ‘Fearlessly Optimistic’ art auction, it features a variety of different shapes inspired by the magnitude of possibilities of what a star evokes. 10% of profits from these jumpers will also be further donated to Barnardos to help the children they support in means of medical care, education, schooling and counselling. They are online now 💫

This ongoing series of new works on paper form part of my series inspired by lyrics, popular culture and everyday speech that explores the occasional dual meanings of language and relevance to my life. ‘We Are One’ is derived from a line from the patriotic 1987 song, ‘I Am Australian’ by The Seekers whose lyrics describe a nation that celebrates its vast diversity, culture and history, a common theme of exploration in my work.
