Artists Statement:
"Inspired by lyrics, everyday speech & popular culture exploring the dual meanings and interpretations of language, the words You Don't Own Me was sung by Lesley Gore, released in 1963 (although the lyrics still ring true today). An anthem that expresses independence, empowerment and self worth, it challenges control, asserts freedom and insists that body, mind and creativity remain our own. Reitterating this resilience is my ongoing pursuit of for my work to break free from its sterotypes, step otside the box and challenge perceptions and traditions, breaking free from the conventional and predictable."
